Chemical Peels- Chemical Peel Options, Benefits and Side Effects

by Martha Fitzharris

A chemical peel is a cosmetic treatment that is generally used to treat patients with very mild scarring. With this procedure the damaged skin is removed helping the dermis to renew. Chemical peels are great for removing acne scars, fine lines and improve skin pigmentation. Chemical peels are not recommended for people with major skin flaws.

Chemical Peel Treatment

Alpha hydroxyl facial peels:

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) consist of organic carbolic acids. Minor skin issues such as acne scars, dry patches and fine wrinkles will be improved with this type of chemical peel. The specialist determines how much of this his product is to be used. For instance the most concentrated level is, 50- 70% and is only administered by doctors. Through this method the patients can achieve almost the same outcome as with microdermabrasion. Dryness and red skin are some of the side effects that may occur due to this treatment. There are also at home chemical peels that contain alpha hydroxyl acid at a lower concentration of about 10%.

Trichloroacetic acid facial peels:

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is the next level of chemical peels. This type of chemical peel helps reduce deeper wrinkles, acne scars and precancerous skin lesions. The effects of this treatment are more dramatic but the results are greater. Patients will need up to one week to recover from the severe burned like skin on the face.

Phenol facial peels:

Phenol Peels are the strongest of the chemical solutions and produce a deep skin peel. It is appropriate for patients with deep wrinkles as well as for sun damaged or pigmented facial areas. To close the procedure, the skin is rinsed with cold water and the length of the treatment is about an hour. Phenol peels are not recommended to people with darker complexions because once the redness fades the skin will turn white.

The result of using chemical peels are proved to be significant. They can reduce fine lines especially under the eyes and around the mouth. Acne scar removal can be achieved through chemical peels. Whether you chose an over the counter chemical peel or you have a more intensive treatment done, your skins texture will be smoother and more refreshed.

Chemical peels can present some restrictions. Chemical peels as well as laser resurfacing or dermabrasion can help to make the skin look better, however they will not totally heal it. Patients may look for other methods since the cost of chemical peels is quite high. Since multiple treatments are required to achieve results, chemical peels prices may be too expensive.

BIOSKINCARE is a natural exfoliation product that can achieve the same results as chemical peels or dermabrasion without the cost or side effects. It exfoliates the skin with proteolytic enzymes that dissolves dead tissues without harming living healthy cells. BIOSKINCARE is recommended for acne treatment, fine wrinkles and fragile skin types that cannot tolerate pressure or friction on the skin.
