Because of its severity, cystic acne is the worst form of acne. Its consequences are more serious than other types of acne. This is caused by an infection in the inner layers of the dermis that stimulates the formation of nodules. It is also known as acne vulgaris. The factor that contributes to the formation of acne cysts and acne nodules is clogged pores that don't allow the normal flow of the sebum to the skin surface. Improper disposal of cells leads to the clogging of these follicles. If not treated, the infection can amplify in size and area which causes acne cysts to become more serious.

It is necessary that the sebum ducts be clear in order to prevent them from getting clogged and decreasing the risk of the cysts formation. Acne cysts take a lot of time to heal since the infection is deep seated however there are acne treatments for cysts. Many dermatologists prescribe a drug called Accutane, and is one taken in the form of a tablet. Its function is to shrink the oil glands which will lower the acne infections. The success rate of Accutane is as high as 80% on the other hand; severe side effects like depression have been seen in some patients. This treatment should be considered the last option due to the important risks involved.

Another option can be provided by a dermatologist and it uses cortisone as the active ingredient. They are extremely effective, painless and instantly reduce redness and inflammation. After the injection is administrated the pimple is lowered to the skin level making it less noticeable. Some of the problems that may occur after receiving the injection are temporary skin discoloration and bleeding.

It is complicated to cure cystic acne however there are treatments for it. This type of acne requires a special acne skin care treatment since some could worsen the condition. Natural acne products are available that treat cystic acne as well as improve the skin in general.
