What are Laser Acne Scars Treatments and Do I need them?

by Valerie Garner

Many people develop scars as a result of their acne problems. To what extent these blemishes can affect your skin will depend greatly on the type of acne you have. Quick and effective acne treatment is also a factor in the prevention of acne.

The gentlest treatments for acne scars include scar removal creams, microdermabrasion, and dermabrasion. Scar removal creams and microdermabrasion creams can be used in the comfort of your own home. Their results take a while to manifest so be patient and consistent if you want definite results.

Microdermabrasion treatments can be performed in a spa while dermabrasion treatments are performed in a doctor's office. Microdermabrasion is gentler and requires no anesthesia while dermabrasion requires the use of a local anesthetic and some downtime.

Most people don't understand why they get acne scarring and the answer is a simple as having used ineffective acne treatments. Consequently, the best acne treatment is a proactive acne treatment. The only problem is, not everyone sticks to a rigorous treatment routine.

For all of those people that don't like rigorous routines or have a hard time sticking to them, the laser therapy treatments outlined below can prove to be a great treatment for acne scars.

Laser Acne Treatment

Laser Skin Resurfacing

This type of laser therapy is used to treat sunken or atrophic scars. Deep boxcar scars are difficult, though not impossible, to treat using this method. The laser tightens the middle layer of the skin and removes the top layer, making your skin smoother.

Ablative and non-ablative are the name given to the two types of lasers used in this type of treatment. Each type leads to different results. The type that your doctor chooses to use depends on the type of scarring you have.

If you undergo treatment with ablative lasers you will have to take time off from work because this laser usually produce lesions. You will also need to apply dressing and antibiotic dressings for a certain period after the treatment. This is why ablative laser is not the best treatment for facial acne scars.

The first signs of improvement will appear two weeks after initial treatment. Some people have to wait 18 months after treatment before they see any real results.

Non-ablative lasers do not cause lesions because they treat the dermis and, therefore, require no downtime. However, it is necessary to undergo several treatments. Ablative and non-ablative laser treatments are both known for treating acne conditions, however, this type of treatment is probably the best one.

Fractional Laser Therapy

Fractional laser therapy works on both the epidermis and dermis. This is a great way of treat acne scars because it allows the specialist to focus only on the damaged part of the skin. This promotes a shorter healing period and a more effective treatment.

Be warned, however, fractional laser therapy can cause a sunburn-like sensation after the initial treatment. Swelling is usually minimal and will subside within a couple of days. It can also leave a pinkish tone on the skin that will also dissipate within a week.

Laser therapy is quickly becoming a very popular method for treating acne scars and aging skin. However, sometimes using a gentle acne scar cream is better for facial acne treatment or smaller scars. Of course, the best solution is acne prevention. By using natural acne creams such as BIOSKINFORTE you can finally treat those stubborn acne scars and cysts, while helping prevent future acne scar formation.
